Ingredients

  • 6 –8 slices of white bread soft = better results
  • 1/2 cup milk for dipping, not for sipping… yet
  • 1/4 cup sugar because we’re not here for bland
  • 1 tsp cinnamon optional but highly recommended
  • Oil for frying or butter if pan-frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the bread.
  • Cut off the crusts (yes, we’re being picky today). Flatten each slice slightly with a rolling pin or your hands.
  • Shape the doughnuts.
  • Use a round cutter (or a glass) to cut circles. Then cut a smaller circle in the center to create that iconic doughnut shape.
  • Dip in milk.
  • Quickly dip each piece in milk. Don’t soak it—this isn’t a sponge experiment. Just a quick dip to soften.
  • Heat the oil.
  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Test with a small piece—if it sizzles, you’re good to go.
  • Fry the doughnuts.
  • Fry each piece for 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown. Flip carefully—they’re fragile little legends.
  • Coat in sugar.
  • Mix sugar and cinnamon, then toss the warm doughnuts in it. This is where the magic happens.
  • Add toppings (optional).
  • Drizzle chocolate, add sprinkles, or go classic. Your doughnuts, your rules.
