Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened – the secret to rich flavor
  • ¾ cup brown sugar – adds that chewy caramel-like goodness
  • ½ cup granulated sugar – balances the sweetness
  • 2 large eggs – the glue holding everything together
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract – tiny ingredient big flavor
  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour – the cookie base
  • 1 tsp baking soda – gives cookies their lift
  • ½ tsp salt – makes all the flavors pop
  • 1 cup chocolate chips – because cookies without chocolate are suspicious
  • ¾ cup rolled oats – the secret ingredient for texture
  • ½ cup chopped nuts optional – extra crunch if you're feeling fancy

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven
  • Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Skipping this step? Rookie mistake.
  • Cream the butter and sugar
  • In a large bowl, beat together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth and fluffy. This step helps create that dreamy cookie texture.
  • Add eggs and vanilla
  • Crack in the eggs one at a time and mix well. Stir in the vanilla extract. The batter should look creamy and slightly glossy.
  • Mix the dry ingredients
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Slowly add the dry mixture into the wet mixture.
  • Important: Mix until just combined. Overmixing makes cookies tough—and nobody wants that.
  • Add the fun stuff
  • Fold in chocolate chips, oats, and nuts if using. Now the dough starts looking like the cookie masterpiece it’s about to become.
  • Scoop the dough
  • Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the baking sheet. Leave about 2 inches of space between them.
  • Cookies like their personal space too.
  • Bake
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges turn golden but the centers still look slightly soft.
  • Trust the process. They’ll firm up while cooling.
  • Cool (or don’t)
  • Let cookies cool on the tray for 5 minutes before transferring to a rack.
  • Or eat one immediately and burn your tongue slightly. It’s basically a baking tradition.
